Bolsonaro has been arrested after authorities concluded he posed a definite escape threat while under home confinement.
The former head of state was found guilty of orchestrating a military coup in the ninth month and handed more than 27 years in jail, but he remained under home detention pending court reviews.
Brazilian Supreme Court Justice the presiding justice said the action to imprison the septuagenarian politician was a preventative measure after fresh information were revealed.
This involved attempting to break his tracking device and a invitation to a public vigil that could enable a potential flight.
Legal Document Reveals Escape Concerns
In a paperwork permitting the arrest, Justice Moraes said intelligence from the facility tracking Bolsonaro's house arrest suggested the one-time head of state's plan to remove the electronic ankle bracelet to ensure success in his escape.
This, it said, would be made easier by the chaos caused by the protest called by his child.
His son, his son Flávio, who works as a congressional representative, called for a gathering of his supporters near his father's house to take place on the weekend.
Flávio Bolsonaro wrote on digital networks on the previous day: "Are you going to fight for your country, or observe everything from your mobile device there on your settee? I invite you to fight with us."
He said the demonstration would be so supporters could "pray for his health and for the restoration of democratic rule in our country."
Diplomatic Refuge Fears
Part of the magistrate's determination was the chance of his transfer to embassies near the home, considering that the investigations revealed a history of arranging to seek refuge through a consular facility", a declaration said.
The legal document underscores that the United States embassy in the capital, Brasilia, is located around 13km from the former president's residence.
International Reactions
Bolsonaro's legal woes have drawn the ire of fellow conservative nationalist US President Trump, prompting him to enact a fifty percent tax on imports of Brazilian goods.
Bolsonaro is being detained in a federal law enforcement building in Brazil's capital city and will have a detention review on Sunday.
Recent Legal Requests
It was only on Friday that the ex-leader's attorneys asked the Supreme Court to authorize him to fulfill his full incarceration period under domestic detention, with digital surveillance.
They also requested that he be authorized to depart his residence for medical treatment, saying he needed frequent medical attention for pulmonary infections and other health problems.
Details of Guilty Verdict
Bolsonaro was determined responsible of leading a conspiracy aimed at retaining his authority after he failed to win the national vote to his ideological adversary, Lula.
High Court judges said that he had knowledge of a plan which involved plans to murder Lula and his running partner, his vice-presidential candidate, and to imprison and murder the presiding judge - the High Court judge who has been presiding over Bolsonaro's trial.
The plot was thwarted because it failed to get the backing of the military leaders. His successor was inaugurated without problem on January 1st, 2023.
But a seven days after, on 8 January, numerous his backers invaded and destroyed government buildings in the national capital, Brasília.
The security forces stepped in and around fifteen hundred individuals were arrested.
The magistrates found that the demonstrators had been encouraged by him whose scheme, they said, was for the national armed forces to intervene, bring back stability and bring him back to power.
At the moment, Bolsonaro's lawyers called the 27 years and three months sentence unreasonably severe".
He was also barred from seeking elected position until the year 2060 - a decade minus two years after the end of his sentence.
The former president called the trial a targeted investigation" and said it was designed to prevent him participating in the 2026 national vote.
